The ill. on the left (© Klassik Stiftung Weimar) shows an original page of Goethe's Arabic writing exercises. The ill. in the middle shows one of my chosen excerpts, from which I have taken Goethe's writing in digitised form. In all of the palimpsests I transformed Goethe's writing traces (shown here in red for clarity) into a vector file and uploaded them in this form onto an electronic writing tablet. Using an electronic stylus I added one or more layers of writing, which highlight certain characteristics or parameters of the original.
